Hey!  I thought I'd write something new here in this space for me to write things.  I have been enjoying some time off from music, but I think maybe I'm almost ready to get back on the horse, so to speak.  There are two shows coming up - one in Philly and one in Northampton.  I hope you will make it out to one if you are nearby.  I'm working on some new material and hope to get back in the studio to start work on LP #5 this fall.  I miss playing for people and I'm looking forward to getting back to it.  Hope you have been well!

Love,

Jennifer

JO'C Update 2009-09-22

Hello everyone-

Happy First Day of Fall!

I'm writing with a one major-ish announcement, and a couple of fall show and radio announcements.

First, I want to be the first to let you know that I have parted ways with Matador Records.  It happened back in May, and while it wasn't a huge shock, it was of course a disappointment.  I was a big fan of the label before they signed me, was honored to be part of their world for a few years, and am very proud of the two records I released on their label.  Change can be the best thing for a person and I think its going to be a good thing with this situation.

So, what's next?  To be honest, I really have no idea.  I'm taking my time writing new songs. Once I feel I am close to a finished record, I'll decide then if I want to put together a team to work with me to put the record out on Kiam (my label) or I may choose to partner up with a new label.  It's all up for discussion, but for now I'm going to focus on making new music.

Second bit of news -  I'll be playing a couple of solo shows this fall and doing Jon Solomon's WPRB fundraiser for the 3rd year in a row!

Oct 7, 2009 is when I will be on Jon's show.  His show airs from 7-10pm on WPRB - you can listen on your FM dial or on the internet.  I play covers and you pledge money to the station, that's how it works.  If you wanna make a request in advance for a certain song, email Jon or me and we'll make it happen.  But don't forget to pledge, that's your part of the equation.  WPRB is a great station that has been supporting me for a long time, so help them out if you can!
Visit www.wprb.com for more info - or to pledge - or www.keepingscoreathome.com

I'm also playing 2 solo shows.

That's it for now.  Be well everyone.

Jennifer

Shorties 2009-03-25

I'm in a cold club in Baltimore MD.  I got a ticket for turing right on red on my way here. $90!  Tonight is night 2 of 2 nights with Neil Halstead and his lovely band.  I'm gonna drive home to Brooklyn tonight after the show I think.  Want. My. Own.   Bed.  After being home, even for just a little while, its hard to start traveling again.  Saturday is Nyack with Chris Brokaw.  My good pal.  I am told that I'm going to want to live in Nyack once I visit there.  Then home for a couple of weeks.  Then some shows with Robyn Hitchcock and then the Indigo Girls.  Separately, of course.

Today in the car ride from Pittsburgh, through the mountains and tunnels and rain, I listened to Pema Chodron talk about true happiness and the root of happiness.  Alternately calming and terrifying.  I also listened to an NPR piece on jazz vocalist Abbie Lincoln.  Made me want to get her records.  She just made a new record at age 77 about the positive and beautiful aspects of life.  Feel I could learn something from a lady like that.

Songs that played on various stations today that I did enjoy:  Stay (Far Away, So Close) - U2, Neko Case - We Are Animals - or something about animals...., something by The Broken West - really liked it, hadn't heard them yet, We Belong - Pat Benetar, Love Sex Magic - Ciara feat. Justin Timberlake (though I feel a little weird about it being so closely named to that Red Hot Chili Peppers record).

Last night after the show, I went to the bar next to Club Cafe called Jack's with Neil and his bandmates.  This bar has a neon pink and green sign and I always wonder about it when I play there.  I'm glad I went it finally - It was quite a scene.  Blondes with big eyes in low-cut shirts and short skirts.  Everyone is smoking. $1.50 Michelob Ultra.  Free popcorn.  Hotel California on the jukebox. I had a Corona and some burnt french fries and went about finding my room at the Extended Stay America.  Just another night on tour.  Or on this particular short jaunt.
